“Take no thought for the morrow…” Matthew 6:34.
Every new day is a new beginning. Yesterday is gone and can’t be changed by wishing or ruminating over bad choices we’ve made. I’ve been there, and it’s a very unfulfilling place to be! A real dead end…
Tomorrow is in the future, and we really don’t know what it’s going to bring. If we worry or fret over it, it will rob us of the joys of today. As Corrie ten Boom said, “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow ~ it empties TODAY of its strength..”
One of the most difficult lessons I’ve had to learn is to live for today. Living in the moment opens a whole new world to you if you’ve never focused on it. We spend so many hours of our lives waiting, hoping, expecting, looking ahead…And while we are, life is happening! Wait! Hold on there! Don’t miss it!
My challenge to you today is this:
Just for today, practice living in the moment.
Use all your senses to experience the marvelous world around you.
Look!
Look around you at the wonder of God’s world and savor the view!
Inhale the fragrance of a flower and marvel at the butterfly fluttering around it.
Look~ really look~ at the faces of those around you.
Listen!
Spend a moment ~just a moment~ listening.
Listen to the sounds of nature or play some music.
(Turn off the computer and the television. Get off the phone! Did I already mention this?)
Listen intently to your friend or loved one and really pay attention to what’s being said. Take a moment to hear that individual who may be hurting today.
Do it. You’ll be glad you did.
Sit down and play with a child. I have found this to be a profoundly joyous way of living in the moment. (Small children are truly the experts at this, if you need a teacher.)
And remember, the God who made heaven and earth created it all for you. Praise Him in every situation and know that even if today isn’t beautiful, God knows, is still in control, and has saved the tears you’ve shed. (Psalm 56:8) Even in the painful and difficult times you are profoundly loved by a Heavenly Father who is ever nearby.
Daily practice the awareness of His Presence through prayer and meditation on the Scriptures. Focus on Him throughout your day. Talk to Him as often as He comes to mind. Fill your mind with His Word.
He will grow larger and larger in your life, so that HIS beauty fills your moments. And what incomparable love and grace He imparts…
At some point I’ve realized that the more I can live in the moment, the stronger is my walk with Him. And when the tough times come I don’t have to go looking for Him.
Live in the moment.
Love,
Becky
