A Walk Up the Golden Staircase

“One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:13
Without a doubt, my mom was a great mother and an exceptional role model, and I miss her terribly at this time of the year…. She was a loving, courageous lady, and she lived her final days comforting those around her, while fighting a terrible illness. I’m still in awe of her faith and her perseverance in looking JOYFULLY toward Christ and her home in heaven ~no matter the awful circumstances.
Over the years I’ve had many dreams about her.
The most glorious and memorable dream about my mother came to me a few months after her death. In this dream I saw her eagerly walking up a very long, elaborate golden staircase, never looking to her right or left. I was very aware of the fact that I was somewhere below her, looking upward. The stairway soared toward the sky, and I couldn’t see the top. Her face radiated bright light as she gazed steadily upward. There was an aura of pure joy surrounding her. She was wearing a stylish formal gown, pale and iridescent. But the dress accentuated her slender, girlish figure, and I marveled at how fresh and beautiful she looked.  And I couldn’t help but notice her shoes. They were elegant high heels, quite fashion forward! I’d never seen her look more stunning.
All in all, she was a portrait of style and grace as she eagerly made her way upward, never wavering in her glance toward her destination. A child of the King, finally going home! The entire picture brings tears to my eyes even today as I remember the thrill of seeing her. Words cannot describe the feelings evoked by this dream…I knew that at the top of the stairway was Heaven, with its glories beyond human understanding. Watching her, I realized that she clearly saw what awaited her at the top of the staircase! She knew she was going to see her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ! She knew that she’d also be reunited with her beloved mother and brothers, along with so many more. And wouldn’t she be one of the finest altos in the heavenly choir? I can hear her lovely voice joining right in!

I can’t express the joy and gratitude I feel, seeing her walk those golden stairs. In my heart I carry that vision, and it helps to keep me walking in the same direction~ toward my heavenly home with Christ, the Author and Finisher of my faith, as my goal!!
“Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
‘Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory.
Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb.'” Rev. 19:6-7, 9
Someday we’ll share in that experience together! Someday I’ll be reunited with Mother in glory!
Oh, glorious day!
Thank you, God, for my Christian mother. And thank you for this vision of her entrance into your glorious Presence. May I, too, keep my eyes fixed on you, looking neither to right or left. Keep my focus on the prize ~ everlasting life with You and a home in glory. Keep my life pure and free of anything that would hinder my service to You, as I journey upward. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, amen!
